The Centre for South Asian Studies (CSAS) is a fully independent, non-political, secular, research think-tank based in Kathmandu, Nepal. Director Dr. Nishchal N. Pandey was the Moderator in the ‘India-Nepal Development Partnership Conclave’ held on Jan. 23, 2023 in Kathmandu. It was organized on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Nepal and India.
CSAS and CDD organized a talk program on the above theme on June 2, 2022 in Kathmandu. Senior political leader and former Foreign Minister Pashupati SJB Rana, former foreign minister Ramesh Nath Pandey and former foreign secretary Kedar Bhakta Shrestha shed light on the challenges brought out by the American withdrawal from Afghanistan, COVID-19 pandemic and the latest Russian invasion of Ukraine on global economy and regional security. The also hoped that like in the past, Nepal will be able to navigate itself safely amidst this turbulence in the geo-political scene.
COSATT-KAS hybrid roundtable on ‘BIMSTEC After the Fifth Summit’ was held in Kathmandu on April 14, 2022. Speakers from India, Bangladesh, Thailand and Nepal shed light on the strategic significance of BIMSTEC. A report of the roundtable will soon be published.

CSAS in cooperation with National College and KAS organized a 2-day webinar on ‘Accelerating Progress and Equality in Education’ on May 31-June 1, 2021. More than 100 students and faculty participated in the programme which centered around discussions on how the pandemic has impacted on education, challenges of on-line learning, cost factors and need of re-orientation of the faculty towards digital tools. A host of speakers from Nepal, Singapore and Germany shed light on the challenges and opportunities of on-line learning.
COSATT in cooperation with KAS and the Institute of South Asian Studies (ISAS), Singapore organized a national workshop on ‘Nepal’s Contributions to UN Peacekeeping’ in Kathmandu on April 19, 2021. Foreign Minister Pradeep Gyawali was chief guest. A number of strategic affairs experts shed light on the topic.
