Director Dr. Nishchal N. Pandey spoke at the workshop â€˜Nuclear Disarmament, Safety and Stabilityâ€™ held at Kalutara, Sri Lanka organized by the RCSS on Sep. 22, 2014 and on the 18th SAARC Summit organized by the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute, Colombo on Sep. 24th.

CSAS-COSATT Panel Discussion on Expectations from the 18th SAARC Summit

A panel discussion on the above theme was held in Kathmandu on Nov. 23, 2014 with participation from COSATT member and prominent think-tanks from all the 8 member states. It was inaugurated by the Honâ€™ble Foreign Minister Mahendra Bahadur Pandey of Nepal. On the occasion, CSAS-COSATT book â€œRealizing the Vision of a South Asian Unionâ€ was also launched.

Eminent Indian scholar C. Raja Mohan spoke on the above theme at a CSAS organized talk program in Kathmandu on July 22, 2014. Ambassador of India to Nepal H.E. Ranjit Rae chaired the program while former ministers, diplomats, a large number of academics, students, media-persons attended the program.

CSAS-KAS-COSATT conference on "Realizing the Vision of a South Asian Union"

CSAS in cooperation with the KAS held the above conference on July 15-16, 2014 in Kathmandu which was inaugurated by Foreign Minister of Nepal Mahendra Bahadur Pandey. SAARC SG Arjun Bahadur Thapa, former ASEAN SG Ambassador Ong Keng Yong, Maj. Gen. (retd.) Dipankar Banerjee and Dr. Wilhelm Hofmeister of the KAS spoke at the inaugural. Heads of think-tanks of all SAARC countries participated in the event. Foreign Secretary Shankar Bairagi launched the CSAS-KAS book "Afghanistan in SAARC: Towards Deeper Engagement" on the occasion.

NESA-Hoover Institution Workshop

Director Pandey spoke at the joint NESA-Hoover workshop on 'Challenge of Governing Over Diversity in an Age of Transparency' held at the Stanford University, Palo Alto on April 28-May 1, 2014. Former Secretary of State George Shultz and former Secretary of Defense William Perry were the main speakers.

COSATT Expert Meeting "South Asia 2025: Taking it to the Next Level"

A meeting of Consortium of South Asian Think-Tanks (COSATT) with the above theme was held in Singapore on April 11-13, 2014. Heads of think-tanks from SAARC countries along with former SG of SAARC Ahmed Saleem and former SG of ASEAN Rodolfo Severino presented their views at the meeting. The COSATT project is supported by the KAS.

International Policy Conference on Food Security

CSAS in cooperation with the Political Dialogue-Asia Programme of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (Singapore) organized an international policy conference on "Food Security in the Context or Climate Change" on March 20, 2014 in Kathmandu. Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture of the Nepal Government Jay Mukunda Khanal, Ms. Genoveva Hernandez Uriz, DCM of the EU Delegation in Nepal, Mr. Jammie McGoldrick, UNDP Resident Representative and Dr. Wilheim Hofmeister of the KAS (Singapore) spoke at the inaugural. The conference was participated by 28 participants from Europe, Southeast and South Asia.

Talk on "Fiscal Federalism and Multi-Layer Governance: Experience Sharing of Germany".

CSAS in cooperation with the Rule of Law Programme of the KAS, Singapore organized a talk on the above theme by Prof. Ulrich Karpen, former member of the state parliament of Hamburg on March 11, 2014. Judge Marc Spitzkatz of the KAS, former home minister of Nepal Hon'ble Bhim Rawal, Prof. Bishwambher Pyakuryal and Senior Advocate Bishwa Kant Mainali spoke at the function.

CSAS-CRRID Regional Conference on "Cooperative Development, Peace and Security in South Asia"

A regional conference was organized by CSAS and CRRID-Chandigarh on the above theme on Feb. 15-16, 2014 in Kathmandu. Rt. Hon'ble Prime Minister Sushil Koirala and Hon'ble Dr. Karan Singh, Member of Indian Parliament were guests of honour. A large number of participants from the SAARC region attended the event.

Dipankar Banerjee, Mentor of IPCS, Delhi, Ramesh Nath Pandey, former foreign minister, Ibrahim Zuhuree, Director, SAARC Secretariat, Saloni Singh, chairperson of Didi Bahini and Dr. Nishchal N. Pandey spoke on the occasion.

Director Pandey speaks in seminars at Heidelberg, Berlin & Brussels

Director Dr. Nishchal N. Pandey was visiting fellow at the Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik (SWP), a leading German think-tank in Berlin for Sep.-Oct., 2013. He also spoke at several seminars at South Asia Institute, Heidelberg University on â€˜South Asia & Europe: Interaction on Regional Integrationâ€™ and at the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, head office in Berlin on â€˜Political Developments & Regional Cooperation in South Asiaâ€™. He was also a member of the KAS-COSATT delegation to Brussels where he spoke on â€˜Sustainable Use of Natural Resources in South Asiaâ€™ organized by KAS-Brussels & South Asia Democratic Forum.

Adenauer Forum on Sub-Regional Cooperation

CSAS in partnership with the KAS organized the Adenauer Forum on "Sub-regional cooperation and Trade Facilitation between Nepal-India-Bangladesh" on July 9, 2013 in Kathmandu. Prof. Nisha Taneja, Fellow at ICREAR, Delhi, Gen. ANM Muniruzzaman, President of BIPSS, Dhaka and former commerce secretary of Nepal government Purushottam Ojha spoke on the occasion.

Afghanistan in SAARC: Towards Deeper Engagement

CSAS-KAS organized a regional conference on the above theme in Kathmandu on May 14-15, 2013. It was participated by Amb. Salman Haidar (India), Amb. Aslam Rizvi (Pakistan), Dr. Faramarz Tamanna, of the Foreign Ministry, Kabul among a host of senior diplomats, academics and strategic analysts from the region.

International Security Forum, Geneva

Director Dr. Nishchal N. Pandey participated in the International Security Forum in Geneva on April 21-26, 2013. He also participated in the annual network director's meeting convened by the NESA Center of the National Defence University of the United States held in Geneva.

CSAS-KAS Book Launch on Nepal's National Interests-II

Editor of Kantipur daily Sudheer Sharma and Editor of The Kathmandu Post Akhilesh Upadhaya launched the CSAS-KAS book on Nepal's National Interests-II at a function held on April 18, 2013. Prof. Jaya Raj Acharya, Dr. Shambhu Ram Simkhada, Mr. Tomislav Delinic also spoke at the function.

The book is co-edited by Nishchal N. Pandey and Tomislav Delinic.

Experiences from the German Constitutional Process

CSAS and the Rule of Law Program-KAS organized a talk on the above subject on April 17, 2013. Judge Marc Spitzkatz, of the Berlin Court was a guest speaker. Mr. Henning Hansen, DCM of the German Embassy, Khim Lal Devkota of the UCPN(Maoist) party, President's Advisor Lalit Basnet, Advocate Sajjan Bar Singh Thapa also spoke in the program.

Federalism in Nepal: Lessons from the Indian Experience

A joint publication of the CSAS, Kathmandu and CSA, Chennai entitled â€œFederalism in Nepal: Lessons from the Indian Experienceâ€ was released at a function by Ambassador of India to Nepal H.E. Jayant Prasad on March 24, 2013. Eminent Industrialist Binod Kumar Chaudhary, Dr. Shambhu Ram Simkhada and Prof. Bishwambher Pyakuryal spoke at the release function.

BIMST-EC Conference held in Kolkata

An international conference on "BIMST-EC: What is achieved and Where to go?" was organized in Kolkata on March 12-13, 2013 by the Centre for Studies in International Relations and Development (CSIRD) and Institute of Foreign Policy Studies (IFPS). Director of CSAS Dr. Nishchal N. Pandey gave a presentation at the conference. Delegates from all BIMST-EC member states had participated in the two-day event.

CSAS-KAS Book Launch of Regional Environmental Issues: Water and Disaster Management

German Ambassador to Nepal Frank Meyke launched the book of the above title at a function held on Jan. 23, 2013. The book co-edited by T. Delinic and NN Pandey has papers by well known authors from SAARC countries is one of a kind as it discusses disaster management from a regional perspective. Dr. Damodar Pokharel, Dr. Mandira Shrestha and Dr. Jan Sharma also spoke at the book launch function.

CSAS participates in Strategic Studies Summit, Bangkok

Director of CSAS Dr. Nishchal N. Pandey gave a presentation at the above Summit organized by NESA Center in Bangkok on Nov. 3-9, 2012. CSAS also participated in the forum â€œThe Challenges of Water and Energy Security in South Asia and the Indian Ocean Regionâ€ also organized by the NESA Center.
